Bo Xilai Talking With Bendt Bendtsen, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Economic and Business Affairs of Denmark

On June 27, Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai held a talk with Bendt Bendtsen, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Economic and Business Affairs of Denmark, who visited China at the invitation. The two ministers exchanged views on further expansion of trade scale, enhancing cooperation in major fields and IPR protection and recognizing China's full market economy status.

Mr. Bo Xilai actively appraised the progress of China-Denmark Trade and Economic relations, he said, the bilateral trade between the two countries increased from US$1.55 billion in 2002 to US$3.15 billion in 2004, up by 1 time only in 3 years. In the past 3 years, total investment from Denmark in China amounted to nearly US$200 million. Besides, the bilateral cooperation in shipbuilding, biological medicine, food, energy source and infrastructure construction have made new achievements.

Mr. Bo Xilai expressed his appreciation to the positive and impartial attitude taken by Danish government to settle down China-EU textile trade issue. He said that China firmly opposed trade protectionism, praised the outstanding of Denmark on free trade and hoped that EU and other developed countries could take an open attitude to face the development of Chinese economy.

Bo Xilai said that China highly emphasized IPR protection of enterprises in China, the Ministry will strengthen the cooperation with departments of industry and commerce and judicial departments to create fair environment of competition. China hoped that Denmark could play an active role to promote the recognizing of China's full market economy status to deepen gradually the strategic partnership between China and EU. Bo Xilai also said that China was preparing the WTO Mini-ministerial Conference that will be held in July and striving for the negotiation of Doha Development Agenda.

Bendtsen greatly appreciated the huge achievements of Chinese economy and completely agreed to the suggestions put forward by Mr. Bo Xilai. He said that Denmark has completely felt the energy and vigor of Chinese economy. By now, over 160 Danish enterprises invested in China, from which both China and Denmark benefited. Denmark was against the operation of trade protectionism in any form on textile trade issue, supported the recognizing of China's full market economy status and meanwhile, hoped that China could make bigger progress in IPR protection and play more important role in a new round of WTO negotiation. Bendtsen expressed that Denmark would go on encouraging domestic enterprises to cooperate with Chinese enterprises in shipping, development of renewable energy resources and energy saving to obtain mutual development.
