The government, Danish People's Party and New Alliance have finally reached agreement on the 2008 budget. DF was successful in its demands for a DKK100m 'security package' that will give the police more money to fight terrorism and civil disorder and provide funding for increased video surveillance of major cities and towns. Minister of Finance Lars Løkke Rasmussen (V) declared himself satisfied with the deal, his first budget as finance minister, despite opposition claims that it was DF who decided the outcome. 'I'm a happy man,' said the minister. 'I said all along that we needed a 'common sense' budget and that's what we've got. We need more manpower in the labour market and we've got that through the job package. We need to take our foot off the accelerator, and we've done that too. And we've got more control of local authorities' expenditure.' |
