The OECD's annual growth report shows that Denmark has the fourth-shortest working week of industrialised nations. Only workers in Sweden, Norway and Holland work fewer hours than people in this country, whilst Koreans work the most. According to the new report, high taxes are the major factor in people's unwillingness to work longer hours. 'We can see that high taxes play a significant role in relationship to hours worked,' says Jørgen Elmeskov, acting senior economist at OECD. 'With high taxes, the incitement to work an hour extra is limited and people would rather have more time off.' |
